Louder for the people at the back…
Great looking setup, bike fit and advice from a pro! IM wales for me last year on road bike with my own ‘fit’ was not the best for my back and haven’t cycled since. Back in Mallorca next week and looking forward to a bit of swim bike run training
I have been suffering a lot from calf and achilles tendon injuries, always have had a painful run of the bike and the solution was bringing he cleats,as back as possible to take calf as much as possible out of pedalling action, balancing engagement of gluts and hamstring more, this way quads and calf are more ready and fresh to take loads from running!
Amazing video. Good luck and love how you change over the time
Have a shot everytime Matt Bottrill says 'Like'... drunk by the end of the 3rd minute 😁😆
Hello! What brand of aero bars are you using? Thanks
Drag2zero
Ruth should get some of those special prism glasses that climbers use, so that they can look up a cliff from the bottom without getting a stiff neck.
What glasses are those?!
There’s no research to support pedal technique. Marketing bs
Well it’s currently one of the only things that explains my recurring calf issues
What length are Ruth’s cranks 160mm?
Yes 160
@@Reastle1 thanks Ruth!
Nice! Looking more comfortable than with 165s.
so hard to learn a new technique but it will be worth it. i always think of pedaling as the pedals moving horizontally rather than in circles. sounds like you are doing absolutely everything!
It would be really interesting to hear how the bikes feel out on the road after this bike fit. I don't think I will ever get a pro bike fit like this myself (just because of the £££) but there is no harm in having something to dream about 😄
Can confirm the bike feels great on the road! The extra support from the front end is noticeable
What saddles have you had put on? Are they the gebiomized ones?
Yes gebiomized saddle
Great video and some great tips. Love to know the cost of all of this, Matt's time, new frontend system, new saddle...
I guess this was funded by sponsorship, but as an amateur age grouper I went to Matt a couple of years ago for a basic fit. It was more like a consultation to be honest, he asked my aims, then examined my strength and flexibility. Following this he replaced the poles on my cockpit, re-cabled the bike and did the actual fit. Finally he gave me some exercises and training to do. Cost was a few hundreds, I think £250 for the fit and £200 for the mods. In the broad scheme of costs for an ironman that isn't a lot. I'm guessing it knocked about 30 mins off my bike split and I finished in a fit state to run the marathon. Hoping for a 6 hour split this year, which isn't bad for a 63 year old :) Overall, I can absolutely say that Matt is your man. Money well worth spending.
Not directly funded by sponsorship no - indirectly funded in terms of only income I currently have is through sponsors so paid for in that way. Roough cost of all c£1500
You have normal clothes!!?! 😂
Your house looks amazing. 😮
Wine not for breakfast, lol!
5:48 Coach Ruth Astle analysing a completed session by an AG triathlete. 😂
What's with the Swiss Olympic t-shirt? 🤔
Not an Olympic t shirt just an On test crew t shirt
@@Reastle1 It does have Olympic rings on it tho 😉
Had never noticed that 🙈
I can sooo relate (and sympathise) with your calf issues re' confidence... It's so hard to build that up- especially as what caused it is somewhat vague... potentially resulting in a sub-conscious tension and bias to one side- all of which could hinder the rehab... Fast track sprints and explosive plyometric work built my confidence and strength back- not that I'm suggesting that for you right now... maybe in the future ?
I’m sure the confidence will come back slowly and have a great team around me!
Love watching your workouts. Why the rope routine?
Check out Innerunner website - more info there
Keep it up Ruth
Epik course, looking forward to this Sunday. 🫡 My first full IM 💪🏼
Good luck!
I hope you win there.
Got to get there first!
It’s really hard to watch when Ruth is talking about one thing “a short climb” “into the valley” and yet the video is always something completely different 🤷♂️
well she can’t get footage of every single incline can she, I think the way she did it showing all parts of the course is perfect. Not like for anyone racing Nice will remember what it looks like and think oh “short climb” anyway
Hmm maybe some GTN inner circle YouTubing at races pending return to racing 🤔
Sounds tough Ruth, keep going!!!
If I had the funds, I think I'd run a similar wheel/gearing set up. I love the thought of being able to run 1x with a decent size ring, but have the ability to bail out into a lower set of gears for the odd hill, which is the only time I really need to drop down as I don't mind grinding. And the speed of the Classified Hub shifting is something I hadn't considered before but it can only be a plus 👍🏻
Ruth, don't listen to those WAC Jobs! and suggesting you should just do UA-cam. You worked too hard to get where you want to be. On the start line with the best Female Triathletes in the world. Stay focused and keep humping! Nice 2024!
As someone who has competed in sports for over 50 years I don't know how you keep going with all your setbacks. I really hope you get to race this year 😄.
UA-cam about other Triathletes....Do a bunch of "behind the scenes" stuff with all your Triathlon besties.
Ruth's pool-running face made me think of Dash from the incredibles! Good luck with the recovery!
I love watching your videos, hate to see you're dealing with injuries and not racing, keep smiling! Hole to watch you at Nice
How do you find the motivation day after day when the weather is shit, injuries play up, and there is no racing on the horizon meaning no prize money either? Triathlon is quite tough as it is but if you are a pro I can imagine how tough it must be to have to put in all the work yet not get any of the racing or the rewards.
Great to see you on the Ironman Hamburg commentary. Nice to have some actual triathlon content amongst the random ‘jokes’ and ‘fun facts.’ 😅
Bless you Ruth, just wanted to give you a big virtual hug, i'm sure your going to smash your next race.
What crank length do you use? It cool that these days we short people can get appropriate crank lengths!
👍
As shorty girl I feel offended about the wheels. What is your inside leg length?
Why are you offended about the wheels?
I.M Nice World Championship's... Ready to take off Ruth 🚀
Agree on tire width. Went from 25 to 30 on my TT and its amazing. I cant imagine the disadvantage being too big. I guess if i'd watched your video before ordering i would have gone up to 32 😄
Will we see you in Hamburg 🎉
What are you aiming for in Nice - top 20 / top 10?
Take a shot every time Ruth says Technology
All of that just went right over my head 😮
58 in the front :) the girl is power :) absolute elite level
Nice set up. What kind of bracket is your bike computer mounted on? Looking for a good mount for between my aero bars
It’s from 76 projects - super adjustable so great for all TT bars
That was really interesting. I can't see myself getting any fancy powershift hub any day soon, or any year soon either for that matter, but it sounds as if it might very well be the future as it seems to be all gains and no losses, except to the bank account of course 😄 I only got Di2 last year and am wildly impressed with the responsiveness and so far absolutely faultless shifting it provides. I have also embraced the Di2 wizardry and think the fully synchronised shifting is brilliant. Just shift up or down as you need and let the Di2 sort out the rest, including when to shift from the big to the small chainring, which can of course be customised to suit your preferences.
Interesting- and scary- numbers on the crank/cassettes... I'm running a 11-34 and 46/30.. but it's pretty hilly in N-Wales lol...
Embrace positive affirmations and self-talk to counteract negative energy. Remind yourself of your worth, strength, and potential. You have the power to overcome.
I think you need to be sensible about your injury you have along career ahead of you you’ve had this problem for a while now you need to rehab and get injury completely healed every athlete that doesn’t listen so yes you should completely stop running otherwise later in your life you will pay so you don’t race until next year what does it matter look at the bigger picture go back to work take your mind off you have won 3 Ironman victories so you have the talent so do the right thing dont look at Kat mathews you are ruthless astle think about yourself please good luck 🤞
